Slammin' Slam Poets

Courage. Chutzpah. Strength. Slam Poets. With a flair for drama, slam poets bewitch listeners with every pause, inflection and tear. While I may never have the balls to get up on stage and let my emotions run like the Mississippi River, here are a couple slam poets who do.

1. Kid was 13-years-old when he broke into the slam poetry scene at the "Tourettes Without Regrets" in Oakland, California with his poem about masturbation. He's adorable, strong, wry..check out his story.

2.  She's one of Glamour magazine's 21 Amazing Young Women 2011, New York's first ever Youth Poet Laureate, Harlem Native - and she's only 18. Her poem "Bi-Racial Hair" inspired the short film by Lisa Russell. Pretty impressive resume right?

3. Check out the HBO documentary Brave New Voices - four teams from around the country compete for the 2010 Slam Poetry Championships in NYC. Emerging poets duking it out. Here's Alysia Harris from the Philadelphia Team with her poem "That Girl." Chills.
